DA John Hubert honored for military service

District Attorney John Hubert receives Army Commendation Medal. District Attorney John Hubert receives Army Commendation Medal. Kleberg County District Attorney John T. Hubert, who serves as a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army Reserve, was awarded an Army Commendation Medal in San Antonio at the conclusion of a Brigade exercise.

The presentation, which was approved and presented by the Brigade Commander for the 321st Civil Affairs Brigade, Colonel Kenneth Moore, was a surprise, Hubert said.

The award was based on work that included writing the operations order for, and assisting in the coordinating, planning and executing the unit’s first collective annual training event for the unit since 1986.

CPOF) training, training in exiting Hummer’s when the vehicle has rolled over, dismounted land navigation, leadership reaction courses, training and qualifications on the M16A2 rifle, the M4 rifle, and the M9 pistol, Convoy training involving computer simulation with a lifesized Hummer, and Military Operations in Urban Terrain in a mock city.

“The training was designed to be challenging and interesting, exposing soldiers to real situations that they would encounter overseas in combat situations, “ Hubert said.

“The actual inspiration and execution of the training was the product of the Noncommissioned Officers. It was their work, coupled with the enthusiasm of the Soldiers which made this training event a success,” he said.

The award states, “For exceptionally meritorious achievement while serving as the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 321st Civil Affairs Brigade Operations Officer during its first annual training exercise in 24 years.

“Throughout the training exercise, Lieutenant Colonel John T. Hubert skillfully applied his experience gained from his various overseas deployments by mentoring and providing tactical and operations insight and feedback to the Headquarters Company Soldiers and Staff; thus consolidating and enhancing the unit’s overall training effort and effectiveness. His actions reflect great credit upon himself, the 321st Civil Affairs Brigade, and the United States Army.”

Hubert’s other awards include the Bronze Star (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal (with two stars), Armed Forces Reserve Medal (with M and hourglass devices), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal Southwest Asia Service Medal (with three Bronze Stars), Saudi Arabia Defense Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Reserve Overseas Training Ribbon and the Parachutist Badge.

He served with units awarded the Valorous Unit Award (2-67 AR Bn), Meritorious Unit Award (451st CA Bn), and Superior Unit Award (CAPOC).

The Commendation Medal is a mid-level United States military award decoration, which is presented for sustained acts of heroism or meritorious service.

The Army Commendation Medal is awarded to any member of the Armed Forces of the United States other than General Officers who have distinguished themselves by heroism, meritorious achievement or meritorious service.
