The City wants to help owners fix up historic downtown commercial buildings.

The City wants to help put businesses in vacant downtown storefronts.

The City wants downtown businesses to be profitable.

The City wants downtown businesses to offer products and services that appeal to our citizens, TAMUK students, Navy personnel, and visitors.

The City wants downtown to host popular and diverse events and celebrations throughout the year.

The City is asking the State of Texas for help in accomplishing these things through participation in the popular Texas Main Street Program.

Before we can participate, the State is requiring the City to prove that the community really wants to accomplish these things.
