Weekend Sports Notes
‘Fish’ Camp
Kingsville Independent School District Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Robert Wilcox is hosting a freshman ‘Fish’ camp from July 26-29 at H.M. King High School’s athletic facility.
The workout sessions will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and are exclusive to incoming freshman. The cost of the camp is $10 per participant and each athlete will receive a t-shirt and enjoy a pizza party on the final day.
Participants will have to provide their own athletic shoes and shorts.
“I think this camp is very important for these kids coming in as freshman because they have never been in our high school program before,” Wilcox said.
“So we try to get a lot of stuff accomplished during that week that we would have to instead do during the first few days of practice. So it really gives all of our coaches a chance to meet the kids and get to know who they are.”
Attendees will be sized for equipment, receive locker assignments, tour the campus and field house, and begin learning the new Brahma football philosophy as well as offensive and defensive systems.
Wilcox said the community has been very receptive as he has made his way around town since being hired during the spring.
“It has been great and I really think that there are a lot of people here who are very receptive to the fact that we want to find a way to build a winner in Kingsville,” Wilcox said.
