Santa Gertrudis School welcomes students back to a new learning facility
Santa Gertrudis School welcomed students back to school on Tuesday as they opened the doors to their new learning facility which will house children in grades pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.
The school, which heavily reflects the architecture and design of King Ranch and Texas A&M University- Kingsville buildings, was built as a result of a bond election held by Santa Gertrudis Independent School District in 2008.
It features a competition size gym, Smart Boards in each classroom, an open courtyard with amphitheater and a unique open-air library.
School officials, along with the PBK Architects, spent nearly a year ensuring every detail would reflect the traditions and history of the King Ranch as well as serve the educational needs of the nearly 200 students who will attend the school.
Large panoramic photographs by nationally recognized photographer Toni Frissell adorn the hallways, while a timeline depicts the history of the school district and King Ranch.
Santa Gertrudis I.S.D. is located on the King Ranch in Kingsville and serves students who reside in the public school district, as well as more than 300 students from around South Texas.
