“We are all very pleased with the turnout today because we want every athletic parent showing their support so that all of our sports teams are well represented this year,” Booster Club Member Lynn Wright Yaklin said. “We also want to make sure all of our stands are full for every game this year and just want everyone to come out and support our volleyball, cross country and football teams.”

Yaklin mentioned that the Brahma Athletic Booster Club is still welcoming additional associates.

“We’re always looking for new members,” she said. “Basically you get in touch with me via e-mail or by phone (720-0743) or call Jan Seyfors at the Brahma athletic office (592-6401 ext. 58). We will get you an application, you sign up, pay your membership dues and then you become a member.”

The booster club president is confident that Kingsville Independent School District Athletic Director Robert Wilcox - hired back in May

is the right man to lead the department.

“I think Coach Wilcox is going to take the entire athletic program up a couple of notches,” Yaklin said. “We love his slogan which is

Mediocrity is Unacceptable’ and I think you can see from today that he has the spirit which is going to allow him to teach these kids some pride. That is what we think will build a successful athletic program.”

Yaklin added that community backing was a key ingredient to building young athletes’ fortitude.

“It is vital,” she said. “Events like these are important for promoting school spirit which transfers over to school pride and that gets the numbers up.”

Hamburgers and fajita tacos at the pep rally were provided by HEB, Eddie Yaklin Ford and Neessen Chevrolet.
