Riviera ISD receives 2009-2010 TEA Ratings

The Riviera Independent School District recently received their annual AEIS accountability ratings from the Texas Education Agency for the 2009-2010 school years.

Ratings were based on Texas Projected Measure system (TPM).

The Texas Projected Measure is calculated to identify students based on their probability to meet testing standards for the next testing administration.

Nanny Elementary received a “Recognized” rating with the following percentages with TPM: Reading/ELA – 92 percent (all students), Writing-100 percent (all students), Mathematics – 95 percent (all students), Science – 80 percent (all students).

“I am extremely proud of all the faculty and staff who worked so diligently throughout the year to make our students as successful as possible,” Josephine Smith, Nanny Elementary Principal said.

“They gave 110 percent to their students every day, and I’m confident that next year they will do the same! I am especially proud of the hard work the students and their parents exhibited throughout the year. The achievement was high because all of us (teachers, staff, students and parents) worked together as a team. Thank you for a great year,” Smith said.

Kaufer Secondary (grades 6-12) received an “Academically Acceptable” rating for the 2009- 2010 school year, with the following (TPM) percentages: Reading/ELA – 98 percent (all students), Writing – 100 percent (all students), Social Studies – 99 percent (all students), Mathematics – 88 percent (all students), and Science – 91 percent (all students). Kaufer Secondary came extremely close to achieving a “Recognized” rating, however, due to noncompletion students, the campus missed the rating by less than 1 percent.

“We recognize that we have weak areas and we will target those during individual class instruction as well as during our Optional Flexible Weeks. It is unfortunate that we are not recognized due to one student dropping out. When your numbers are small overall, it only takes one student to make a difference,” Kathy Alvarez, District Counselor said.

“We are very proud of our students and staff. They have worked very hard all year long and the test results prove that hard work pays off. The teachers’ dedication and persistence along with the students’ desire to excel is a winning combination. We also want to thank our parents for their support in helping in our students’ success. These test results are possible because of everyone’s efforts --not just the teachers and students. We will continue to strive for the best and failure is not an option. Determination, dedication and desire are the pillars we set forth for our students and our staff. Congratulations to all our teachers and staff on a job well done,” Mr. Raul Garza, Secondary Schools Principal said.

Riviera Independent School District is scheduled to begin its instructional year on August 23, 2010.
