Esther M. Mata Former Kingsville resident, Esther M. Mata, 88, of Austin, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, in Austin.

She was born on Jan. 27, 1922, to Amado A. Moya and Urbana Alarcon Moya in Falfurrias.

Mata, a homemaker, was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Alma L. M. (Jesus Salazar) Reyes of Austin; four sons, all of Kingsville, Martin Mata Jr. (Irma), Alex M. Mata (Diana), Kleberg County Sheriff Edward M. Mata Sr. (Hilda) and Samuel Mata Sr. (Carmen); 19 grandchildren; and 14 greatgrandchildren.

A rosary was recited Aug. 12 at the Turcotte- Piper Mortuary Chapel in Kingsville.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 13 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Kingsville, with the Rev. Romeo Salinas as celebrant.

Burial followed at the Santa Gertrudis Cemetery in Kingsville.
