Pct. 4 JP issues warning to parents about school
This letter is intended for parents in Precinct 4 with students attending school.
The law in the state of Texas requires a child to go to school. (Texas Education Code 25.085)
As a parent, legal guardian, or person standing in a parental relation to the child, you are responsible for ensuring that your child attends school regularly.
If you the parent/legal guardian intentionally, knowingly, recklessly, or with criminal negligence fail to require the child to attend school as required by law, you commit the offense of thwarting compulsory school and attendance.
The Texas Education Code Section 25.093 provides that conviction of this offense is a Class C misdemeanor punishable by fines up to $500.
It is my hope that you will stay involved with your child’s school to ensure a better educational system.
If you have any questions as to what the attendance stipulations are, feel free to contact your child’s school; the school staff will be glad to assist you.
I will not tolerate unexcused absences. It is the parents’ responsibility to have their child or children in school. With your help this problem will be easily remedied.
