Riviera’s football field to be named ‘Coach Artie De La Rosa Field’

By Benita Martinez Riviera ISD

Artie De La Rosa Artie De La Rosa During the Sept. 3 football game, the Riviera football field is going to be named “Coach Artie De La Rosa Field,” after a man who will forever be someone that people can turn to for anything, someone people look up to, and someone who has been an inspiration to many.

Coach Artie De La Rosa started his journey here in Riviera at a very young age.

From kindergarten to his senior year, Coach Artie was educated in some of the very classrooms students utilize today.

As a teenager, Mr. De La Rosa participated in sports such as football, basketball, and track.

Years later he returned to our district as Coach Artie.

It wasn’t only about teaching students how to play a sport, it was also about teaching teenage boys the importance of hard work, dedication, and commitment to a team.

In addition to leading our Mighty Seahawks to success and new heights, Mr. De La Rosa has spent his time giving lectures in Spanish classes, and being a positive role model.

When it comes down to it, Coach Artie is a great respectable person and the Riviera School District is fortunate to have him among us.

When asked how he feels about having a football field named after him, Coach Artie responded, “It is a great honor because Riviera is my home and this school means a lot to me.”

Whether you know him as Coach Artie or Mr. De La Rosa you always know where you stand with him because he tells you how it is. His “tellit like-it-is” approach is done because he truly cares about his athletes and students.

Coach Artie has taught us that working together makes the task much easier and allows us to achieve our goals.
