Four seats on the Kingsville Independent School District Board of Trustees will be up for grabs in May, but candidates may begin filing Monday at the KISD Administration Building.

The four-year terms for Places 4, 5, 6 and 7 will be up for election. The deadline for filing is 5 p.m. on March 5.

The KISD Board of Trustees election will be held May 12.

The filing date opened Saturday, but since KISD offices are closed, the filing date will begin Monday. Packets for the candidates will be available from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. in the office of Karen Griffith, KISD Assistant Superintendent of Support Services, at the Administration Office. The packets provide instructional information from the Texas Ethics Commission for the candidates.

“The packets will include substantial information pertaining to filing and regulations,” Griffith said Thursday.

The KISD Board of Trustees and the City of Kingsville will both have elections May 12 and share polling places. Each election will be on different ballots. Early voting begins April 30 and ends May 3.

KISD school board candidates must be United States citizens and 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filed at the election or on the date of appointment, as applicable. A candidate must also be a qualified voter and must have been a resident of the state for 12 months and a resident of the KISD for six months, prior to the day of the election. School board members serve without compensation.
