HMK Brahma boys track team wins overall championship

The H.M. King Brahma boys track team won the overall team championship at the Alice Coyote Relays Thursday.

Joe Rodriguez had three first place finishes for the Brahmas, winning the 110-meter hurdles, the 300m hurdles and being part of the 400m relay team along with Chris Lykins, Ricky Perez and Darius Wallace.

Lykins also took first in the triple jump, second in the 400m and third in the high jump.

Manny Jimenez won the discus competition for the Bulls.

Gabriel Herrera had a pair of second place finishes in the 1,600m and 3,200m.

Two Kingsville relay teams also came in second in their respective races.

David Cavazos, Kristain Warren, Justin Wickham and Andre Wilson took second in the 100m relay, while Warren, Wickham, David Campbell and John “Bam” Houston III did the same in the 200m relay.

Warren also finished second in the 200m and Wickham finished third in the 100m.

Houston took second in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump.

Perez took third in both the 400m and 800m, while Mason Copeland also finished third in the 100m hurdles.

For the girls team, Marisa Copeland took second in the 100m hurdles and Angela Salinas also took second in the 300m hurdles.

Anna Ignatiades, Celeste Loera, Salma Perez and Angela Salinas finished third in the 100m relay for the Brahma girls.

Wednesday, the Brahma track teams will be competing in the District 31-3A meet in Raymondville.

Wednesday’s events include the field events and running preliminaries.

Qualifying runners from the running preliminaries will compete again Friday.
