Authorities have released the name of a 29-year-old man who was arrested last week in connection with two shootings on Alice Street.
Phillip Michael Garza, of Bishop, was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Kleberg County Jail on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of harassment of a public servant. He remained in the jail this week and was being held on $225,000 in bonds for those charges. In addition, jail records showed he was being held on three city warrants and a possession of a controlled substance charge from incidents unrelated to the alleged shooting.
Officials with the Kingsville Police Department said they were called to the area of the 900 blocks of E. Alice St. and E. Lee St. shortly before 6:30 p.m. last Wednesday. Garza is believed to have shot John Fling, 51, at a residence in the 900 block of E. Alice St. A second man, Anthony Elliff, 44, was shot at a home next door.
Fling was flown to a hospital in Corpus Christi and remained in ICU Thursday evening, investigators with the police department said. Elliff was treated for his injuries and released Wednesday.
Police said a shotgun believed to have been used in the shootings was located under a home in the 900 block of E. Lee. The case remains under investigation.
