Nearly 100 graduating Bishop High School seniors, dressed in full cap and gown, walked the halls of their district’s campuses greeting students last Thursday during the annual Senior Walk.
“We do this every year,” BHS Principal Andi Kuyatt said. “It’s a chance to showcase our seniors and motivate all of our kids so they can see what’s to come.”
The seniors started their walk for their underclassmen at the high school before visiting Luehrs Junior High School, Bishop Primary and Elementary Schools, and concluding at Petronila Elementary School.
Kuyatt said while the Senior Walk is special for both the seniors and younger students alike, it is also “a big tear-jerker” for the teachers who see students they taught as children prepare for life as adults.
“So it’s really rewarding for our staff to see all of them again before graduation,” she said.
Sylvia Ruiz, a pre-kindergarten teacher at Bishop Primary School, said she taught first grade for many of the Class of 2019 soon-to-be graduates.
“It’s just amazing,” she said. “We see them when they start, and we follow them all along. They aren’t just our kids for that one year. And when in the end, they make it, it’s the best feeling ever.”
The Bishop High School Class of 2019 commencement ceremony will be at the Steinke Physical Education Center on the Texas A&M University-Kingsville campus on Friday, May 24, beginning at 6 p.m.
