At a May 30 breakfast meeting, the Kiwanis Club of Kingsville presented Key Club Scholarships in memory of Dickie Yaklin to Katrina Barrera and Madelyn Peel.

These recent graduates were members of the Key Club of Santa Gertrudis Academy High School and were selected because of outstanding academic achievement, exceptional leadership, contributions to school extracurricular activities and dedication to community service.

Katrina, the class valedictorian, will attend Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton with the goal of becoming a nurse practitioner and will consider joining the cross country team.

Madelyn, class salutatorian, will attend Utah State University in Logan and focus on her biochemistry major. The university not only offers her the opportunity to participate in research studies, but also to spend time with her father’s relatives.

Present to congratulate the two ladies were parents Katherine Barrera and Makayla and Larry Peel.
