The Kiwanis Club of Kingsville is proud to announce the number one candidates competing for the Texas-Oklahoma district sophomore of the year scholarship award.

District winners will be announced in August and receive a plaque and a $600 scholarship fund.

This year’s number one candidates are Zariela Coronado from Academy High School, Trent Garcia from Bishop High School and Makenzie Figarelli-Everett from H.M. King High School. Candidates for the scholarship are nominated by their high schools and all nominees submit a prescribed application describing leadership positions and service activities while serving their schools, the community and others.

Each of the top candidates received a certificate and $150 from Kingsville Kiwanis for their outstanding leadership and service. This year’s awards luncheons with parents and counselors had to be cancelled, but read the Kingsville Record for more information in the future.
