Living the dream of being a policeman

Seven-year-old Logan Garza, right, got the thrill of a lifetime last week as he got to “drive” the KPD SWAT vehicle, a fire engine and a police car. He was given gifts, including a scooter and police and fire honor patches and badges. His older brother Jorel, 13, sprayed fire hoses with Logan at the Riviera Fire Department.

For seven-year-old Logan Garza of Kingsville, the evening of September 8 will be a night to remember for the rest of his life. But that’s getting ahead of the story.

Garza’s big night actually had its genesis on the morning of Saturday September 4 when he was having breakfast with his family at El Lacos restaurant. While eating breakfast, Logan happened to see a gentleman wearing a Vietnam Veteran baseball hat and young Mr. Garza thought he should pay his respects.
