A Kingsville man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a shooting that left a another man in critical condition after he was allegedly shot in the head while driving his vehicle early Monday morning.

Kingsville Police Chief Ricardo Torres said at about 12:30 a.m. Monday, 26-year-old Rolando Perez was shot in the head while driving his vehicle in the 800 block of E. Alice Avenue.

After the shooting, Torres said a passenger in the vehicle took over driving and transported Perez to an apartment complex in the 700 block of W. Kenedy Avenue, where officers responded to the call.

“The officers quickly provided first aid and EMS stabilized him,” Torres said.

Torres said multiple shots to the vehicle resulted in a fluid trail, which allowed officers to follow a path to the 200 block of E. Alice Avenue, where it struck a pole before continuing on Third Street to W. Kenedy Avenue.

Perez was taken by an emergency vehicle to Christus Spohn Hospital Kleberg and transported via HALO flight to a hospital in Corpus Christi. Torres said as of Wednesday afternoon, Perez was still in critical condition at the hospital.

On Wednesday morning, 31-year-old Rudy Longoria was arrested at his residence near the intersection of N. 13th Street and E. Lee Avenue for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection to the shooting. He is currently incarcerated at the Kleberg County Jail, with a bond set at $500,000.
