Budgetary Closing

Memorial Middle School will be the primary victim of KISD’s effort to return fiscal solvency, as it will close in the fall of 2021.

The Kingsville Independent School District Board of Trustees voted 7-0 on the administration’s recommendation to approve closing Memorial Middle School and transforming Kleberg Elementary School to Alice G. Kleberg Early Childhood Literacy & Continuing Education Center to meet the academic needs of the current state of the community. Also approved was moving 7 and 8 grades to Gillett and grade 5 to Harrel, Perez, and Harvey Elementary Schools according to the boundary lines based on the 2021-2022 Kingsville ISD attendance map.

“I believe the 7-0 vote of the board symbolizes the united support and vision of the entire community; our School Board is listening to their constituents who deserve a better future for KISD,” said Superintendent Dr. Cissy Reynolds-Perez. “We all have a higher-level academic vision for all children of Kingsville, and we plan to achieve our vision in a fiscally responsible manner for our taxpayer. Teamwork works,” she said. “We have to be fiscally responsible and move forward and prepare for the kids for today, tomorrow and the future,” KISD Board President Cory Garza said.
