Powerlifter receives scholarship

On Sept. 7, H. M. King High School Brahma Strong Powerlifting Head Coach Hermenejildo Rios, Jr. met with 2020 Brahma Graduate Gilbert Arriaga to present him with his scholarship award letters. In the Spring, Rios had nominated Arriaga for a Texas High School Powerlifting Association scholarship at the Boys Regional Championships held at Bishop High School, hosted by regional Director Lazaro Perez. Upon meeting with the Board of Directors of the State Association, Coach Perez notified Coach Rios about Arriaga’s selection as a recipient of a $1,000 scholarship award to the school of his choice. Gilbert is enrolled as a student at Texas A & M University – Kingsville and is now a member of the Javelina Powerlifting team. Gilbert had an impressive career as a Brahma, winning at the state, national and world levels of competition. Now we wish him the best of luck in his collegiate endeavors. (Submitted Photo)
