Students at Sarita Elementary recently wrapped-up a year full of science activities focused on field investigations. Learning science through hands-on activities, the students took advantage of many learning opportunities available in the area. Texas A&M University Kingsville's Department of Physics and Geosciences lecturer Cherrie Nelson led third through sixth grade students through fun lessons about galaxies, constellations and telescopes. The evening culminated with a view of the night sky using the observatory's telescope. In addition, fourth through sixth graders went on a field trip to El Sauz Ranch and the Coastal Land Resource Center in Port Mansfield. Activities focused on learning about animal skins, skulls, land and sea grasses, and watersheds as students took part in the East Foundation’s effort in providing outdoor education to the next generation of land stewards.
