Santa Gertrudis School - Santa Rosa

Yadira Ahumada is a fourth grade math and science teacher at the Santa Rosa campus of Santa Gertrudis School. She is married to Alex Ahumada and has three children: Julian, Javi and Juan.

Ahumada is a 2006 graduate of the University of Texas-Pan American with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies, and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Educational Administration. She has been an educator for 12 years, with this year being her first with Santa Gertrudis ISD. Other schools Soliz has taught at include Perez Elementary School, Valley View Elementary School and Jubilee Academic Center.

“When a student feels safe, welcomed, cared for and loved, their knowledge blossoms in unimaginable ways,” Ahumada said. “I love to see that in every student.”

Academy High School

Margie Carrales is a physics teacher at Academy High School. She is married to Anthony Carrales and has three children: Marc, Angelina and Matthew.

Carrales holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Texas A&M University-Kingsville. She has been an educator for 15 years, including eight years with the Santa Gertrudis ISD, and has previously taught for the Lyford, Alice and Ben Bolt-Palito Blanco ISDs as well as for the Gulf Coast Council of La Raza Charter School.

Carrales is involved with the AHS student council and the Class 2021, and her teaching philosophy is that “teaching is the profession that creates all others.”
