An 18-year-old and a 2-year-old were killed last night in a crash near Bishop. 

According to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident happened on Farm-to-Market Road 70 six miles east of Bishop shortly after 11 p.m.

A preliminary investigation showed that a 2008 Ford Fusion was traveling westbound and for an unknown reason crossed into the eastbound lane. A 2015 Mercedes Benz traveling eastbound attempted to take evasive action but was struck by the Ford Fusion. 

Two passengers in the Ford Fusion were pronounced dead at the scene. They were identified as Haven Sandoval, 2, and Mario Alberto Benavides, 18, of Kingsville. The driver, two other passengers and the driver of the Mercedes were taken by HALO Flight and ambulances to Christus Spohn Shoreline. 

Investigators said the 2-year-old was secured in a car seat at the time of the accident  

The crash is still under investigation.
