Alicia Rangel Cardenas, 94, of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, passed away peacefully in her home in Montgomery, Texas on Friday, July 2, 2021 with her family at her side.
She was born to the late Braulio Rangel and Consuelo Villarreal on March 12, 1927 in Monterrey, Mexico. She was the oldest of 6 siblings. She owned a beauty salon in Mexico where she worked as a beautician for many years, as she would provide for her parents and siblings at an early age.
After a courtship through letters, she would marry Jose Francisco Cardenas on December 5, 1960.
She moved to Chicago, Illinois where she worked in public schools as an aide, and later became a truant officer for the Hispanic community.
She was a mother of 5 children and 4 step children. She retired to Brownsville Texas in 1978 to be closer to her family in Mexico.
After her husband passed away, she moved to Kingsville, Texas to be closer to her children. She lived with her daughter in Montgomery during the last 10 years, enjoying life to its fullest.
She took advantage of opportunities to travel, spend time with friends and family, and being strong in her faith as a Christian. While very humble, nobody enjoyed music, laughter, dancing, and hearing a good joke as she did. She was known as “Tita” among her family and friends, and was very loved by everyone she met.
Alicia was preceded in death by her loving husband Jose and infant daughter, Diana.
Alicia is survived by 4 children: Jose Angel Cardenas, Jesus Mario Cardenas, Alicia Lacambra, Juan Carlos Cardenas, and 3 step children: Teresa Garza, Alejandro Cardenas, and Francisco Cardenas, as well as a son in-law, and daughter in-laws, and a host of grandchildren.
