Braulio R. Montalvo Sr., 84, passed away on April 9, 2019 in Kingsville. He was born on June 6, 1934 in Laureles Ranch to the late Francisco and Valeriana Montalvo.
He was employed by the King Ranch Laureles Division as a cowboy for over 50 years. As a fifth generation Kineño, he had a great passion for training horses and working cattle. As a “vaquero” he took pride in leading and mentoring others. He was a humble, hardworking, one of a kind man who loved his family dearly.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Emma T. Montalvo; his children, Melinda M. (Tony) Lopez, Braulio (Elena) Montalvo Jr., Mary Ann “Anna” (Manuel) Peña, Lucy (Rick) Frey, Rene Montalvo, and Lee Roy (Catherine) Montalvo; siblings, Oralia Saldana, Mercedes “Chelo” (Dean) Kunkel, Jose Montalvo, Sylvia Garcia, Angelita Hernandez and Lydia Ortiz; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Visitation was on Friday, April 12, 2019 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Turcotte-Piper Funeral Home, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas, 78363. A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. that same evening.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in Kingsville. Interment followed at Laureles Ranch Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lee Roy Montalvo, Ernest Montalvo, Israel (Rale) Vela Jr., Robert Silguero, Marty Alegria and Arturo Mendietta.
Honorary pallbearers are Braulio Montalvo Jr., Rene Montalvo, Jose Montalvo and Encarnacion Silva.
The family would like to thank all who assisted in his care.
Services were entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary in Kingsville, Texas.
