Ernestine C. Sanchez, 91, fondly called Tina, went to be with our Lord on Sept. 3, 2019, surrounded by her beloved family. Ernestine was born on Jan. 24, 1928, in Kingsville to her parents Francisco Castillo and Teresa Gonzalez Castillo.
Ernestine was a devoted Catholic and a member of St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church.
As a young lady, Ernestine worked at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi. While working there, she had the opportunity of a lifetime to fly in a naval jet. She and her husband Mike, a produce manager at HEB, opened Mike’s Café in Kingsville. While Mike cooked, she entertained the customers in the dining area for over 17 years and became acquainted with many Kingsville families.
She was an avid Houston Astros and Dallas Cowboys fan, who enjoyed all sports. She loved visiting the famous U.S. Navy Blue Angel squadron and never missed their air show. She even had a photo taken with them during one of their aerobatic performances here.
She was extremely patriotic, cherished her right to vote, loved the American flag and everything that it stands for. She loved fried chicken and pizza, but especially hamburgers. Ernestine had respect for all living creatures, exercised daily and loved her family dearly. Her priceless memory will be cherished and honored forever.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Mike R. Sanchez; her parents; and a host of brothers and sisters.
Ernestine is survived by her beloved children, daughter, Gloria Lamar (Tony) Rodriguez of Harlingen, son, Mike (Jackie) Sanchez of Dallas, son, Larry Sanchez of Houston, son, Danny (Lisa) Sanchez of Dallas, daughter, Ernestina (Ramon) Peña of Kingsville, son, Howard Sanchez of Kingsville; daughter, Jacqueline Bujanos of San Antonio, son, John (Velinda) Sanchez of Kingsville, daughter, Brenda Tudon of Kingsville; one brother, Gilbert Castillo of Matehuala; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation began on Monday, Sept. 9, 2019, at 8:30 a.m. at Turcotte Piper Mortuary and a Rosary was recited at 10:15 a.m. followed by a memorial funeral at 11 a.m. at Turcotte Piper Mortuary. Interment will be private.
Services were entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd. Kingsville, Texas, 78363.
