Jesus "La Chiva" S. Mendez

On July 25, 2020 the Mendez family lost their beloved patriarch. Jesus S. Mendez was called home to join his soulmate Soila V. Mendez, at the age of 88, after a short illness. 

A lifetime resident of Kingsville,  Jesus was born to Jose Mendez and Beatiz Saenz-Mendez on October 20, 1931.  He was raised on the King Ranch and he enjoyed spending countless hours entertaining his family and friends with hilarious stories of his upbringing. Jesus loved spending time with his large family. He enjoyed music, hunting, fishing, and working on his small cattle ranch. Jesus was a talented auto technician working as an auto-repair supervisor at May-Nix Chevrolet and retiring in a similar position from NAS-Kingsville. Jesus served his county by spending 38 years in the Texas National Guard.

Jesus is preceded in death by his father Jose Mendez, his mother Beatriz Saenz-Mendez, his son Robert Mendez, and his grandson David Mendez Jr. Surviving family members include sons: David (Maria G.) Mendez, Jesse (Norma) Mendez, Ruben Mendez, Joe Mendez D.D.S, and Sam (Jana) Mendez, all of  Ricardo.  Jesus’ surviving daughters include: Velma Mendez, of Corpus Christi, Diana (Robert) Mendez-Flores, of Ricardo, Texas, and Lisa (Mitch) Mendez-Elliott, of Katy, Texas. Jesus’ was also blessed to be survived by several grandchildren: Analisa, Krystal, Jennifer, Andrew, Tiffany, Amy, Anthony, Matthew, Jonathan, Jessica, Madison, Michael,  and Seleste. Jesus’ great-grandchildren include: Ayden, Luke, Evan, Klhoe, Lenox, Kylie, Parker, Gracie, Issac, Emma, Joshua, and Jillian.

Jesus’ service will be held on Thursday, July 30 at, 10 a.m. at Kingsville Memorial Funeral Chapel. Following the service, Jesus will be laid to rest in Ricardo, at the family’s private cemetery, Friends and additional family will be welcomed at the private burial site off of W. CR 2160 in Ricardo.  The family asks that guests wear masks, utilize hand sanitation, and practice the recommended social-distancing measures.
