Joan Dougherty Miller, 75, passed away peacefully in her home in Bishop, TX on Friday, Jan. 7, 2022. She was born March 15, 1946, in Kingsville, TX to Emilia Jarosek Dougherty and Joseph Jack Doughterty. Joan was raised in Kingsville, TX where she graduated from H.M. King High School in 1964. After graduation, Joan attended Vogue Beauty School to become a cosmetologist in Corpus Christi; and later became employed at the Nueces County Extension Agency where she enjoyed working with students in the Livestock show. Joan enjoyed Bunko, dove hunting, and river tubing. She was known for teaching numerous children of friends and family to swim. Joan was a former member of Young Homemakers of Texas (Dilley, TX), St. Mary’s Catholic Church and current member of the Kingsville Noon Lions and St. Paul Church of Bishop, TX. She will be greatly missed by her family and best friend of 64 years, Wanda Allday.
Among those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Tem Miller; son, Joseph Rumfield (Michele) of Devine, TX; brothers, Jim Dougherty (Charlotte) of Helotes, TX and Garry Doughtery (Linda) of Lalano TX; granddaughters, Mary Beth (Garrett) Wesley, Katie Jo Rumfield, Julie Ann Peterson (Cole), Grandson, Jack Davis Rumfield; great-granddaughters, Ava Elaine Wesley and Evelyn Elaine Peterson; and her blended family members Tami (Cathy) Miller of Mathis, TX and Tres Miller of Kingsville, TX.
The family received condolences on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2022, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; with a holy rosary that was recited at 6 p.m. A funeral service was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bishop, TX. A private urn burial will take place at a later date.
