Mary Esther Belmontes

Mary Esther Belmontes, 70, of Kingsville, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 1, 2020, after a long illness. She was born Aug. 9, 1950 in Harlingen to Luis Ortiz Sr. and Isabel Ortiz. Mary graduated from H.M. King and attended Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Mary was a kind, and very loving person. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many people. 

She made friends easily and she will be missed by everyone who knew her. She was attending college to become a teacher but once her children were born, she decided to be a stay-at-home mom. 

She became a great role mode to her children, teaching them the skills needed to become great, successful, citizens. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luis Ortiz Sr. and Isabel Ortiz, and by her father-in-law Octavio Belmontes.

 Mary is survived by her husband, Gilbert Belmontes; mother-in-law, Yolanda Belmontes of Kingsville; one brother, Luis Ortiz Jr. 

Mary is also survived by one son Derek Michael Belmontes, firefighter Corpus Christi; one daughter, Jenice Marie (Sergio) Mendietta, Kingsville teacher; and three grandchildren; Savannah Irene Gomez, Izabella Yolanda Mendietta, and Guillermo Mendietta.

Visitation was held from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 6, 2020 at Turcotte – Piper Mortuary, with a rosary held at 7 p.m. that same evening. A funeral mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 7, 2020 at St. Gertrudes Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Chamberlain Cemetery.

Services are entrusted to Turcotte – Piper Mortuary Services, 205 General Cavazos Blvd. Kingsville, TX 78363.
