Raul Barrera

Raul Barrera, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on the evening of March 28, 2021.

He was born on Feb. 16, 1937 in Kingsville, TX to Asencio and Juliana Barrera.

Raul was preceded in death by his wife, Elvira O. Barrera and is survived by his five children, Norma Donnell, Nora Nuñez (Carlos Nuñez), Charlie Barrera, Noelia Buck (Mike Buck), Gilbert Barrera (Denise Barrera); 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters and 2 brothers. He was loved by all. Over the course of 20 years, Raul and Elvira were foster parents to more than 100 children.

There are many things that will be remembered about Raul, including his love of sweets, his fondness for scratch off lottery tickets and his constant joking around. Most of all, his devotion to Elvira, the wife he loved for 59 years of marriage. If there is any sadness in the loss of Raul, joy can be found in knowing that Elvira welcomed him with open arms in the moment of his passing.

A viewing for family will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 4 at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, friends are welcome starting at 4 p.m., and a rosary will begin at 6 p.m.

A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 5 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, and a burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery.
