Lions roar past Brahmas
The H.M. King Brahmas (1-6, 0-1) were unable to score in a 34-0 loss to the La Feria Lions (7-0, 1-0) on Friday night.
In the first quarter of play, the Lions traveled down the field after forcing the Brahmas to punt and scored on a three-yard touchdown run by Dario Sanchez.
Two drives later, Angel Garcia had a five-yard run to score another touchdown for the Lions.
On the ensuing drive, a muffed snap resulted in a fumble for the Bulls, which was recovered by the Lions.
Two plays later, Garcia scored his second touchdown of the evening to put La Feria up 21-0.
One drive later, Lupe Cavazos threw an interception that gave the Lions another opportunity on offense.
However on the next play, the Brahmas forced a fumble that was recovered by Jesse Salinas to give the Bulls a fresh set of downs.
Four plays later, the Brahmas had another turnover on a fumble, and the Lions added to their lead on the ensuing drive on a touchdown run by Chris Diaz.
The Brahmas were able to get close to the end zone on the next drive, but after starting on first-and-goal from the two-yard line, back-to-back penalties prevented a score as time expired in the second quarter.
The teams headed to the locker room at the half, with La Feria in the lead 27-0.
In the second half, Sanchez had one last touchdown at the tail end of the third quarter, to ice the game at 34-0.
Ethan Bazan was able to pick up an interception in the fourth quarter, but the Brahmas fumbled the football on the next possession of play.
The Bulls have a bye week next week, before continuing District 16-4A, Division I play.
Bobcats blow out Seahawks
The Riviera Seahawks (2-4, 0-1) were held scoreless on the road by the Refugio Bobcats (6-0, 1-0), 73-0.
It was the first game for both teams in District 16-2A, Division I play.
Riviera will play Three Rivers on the road next week. Three Rivers beat Santa Maria tonight, 28-13.
SGA loses in Fal
The Santa Gertrudis Academy Lions (0-6, 0-3) dropped tonight’s game to the Falfurrias Jerseys (4-2, 1-2), 32-3.
The Lions will face the Bishop Badgers next Friday.
Badgers overwhelmed by Pirates
The Bishop Badgers (0-6, 0-3) were beaten by the Mathis Pirates (4-2, 3-0), 46-3.
The Badgers look to recover next week in their homecoming bout against the SGA Lions.
