Lions roar past Brahmas

The H.M. King Brahmas (1-6, 0-1) were unable to score in a 34-0 loss to the La Feria Lions (7-0, 1-0) on Friday night.

In the first quarter of play, the Lions traveled down the field after forcing the Brahmas to punt and scored on a three-yard touchdown run by Dario Sanchez.

Two drives later, Angel Garcia had a five-yard run to score another touchdown for the Lions.

On the ensuing drive, a muffed snap resulted in a fumble for the Bulls, which was recovered by the Lions.

Two plays later, Garcia scored his second touchdown of the evening to put La Feria up 21-0.

One drive later, Lupe Cavazos threw an interception that gave the Lions another opportunity on offense.

However on the next play, the Brahmas forced a fumble that was recovered by Jesse Salinas to give the Bulls a fresh set of downs.

Four plays later, the Brahmas had another turnover on a fumble, and the Lions added to their lead on the ensuing drive on a touchdown run by Chris Diaz.

The Brahmas were able to get close to the end zone on the next drive, but after starting on first-and-goal from the two-yard line, back-to-back penalties prevented a score as time expired in the second quarter.

The teams headed to the locker room at the half, with La Feria in the lead 27-0.

In the second half, Sanchez had one last touchdown at the tail end of the third quarter, to ice the game at 34-0.

Ethan Bazan was able to pick up an interception in the fourth quarter, but the Brahmas fumbled the football on the next possession of play.

The Bulls have a bye week next week, before continuing District 16-4A, Division I play.
