Bishop beats Santa Gertrudis Academy in rivalry contest
A solid game had an ugly ending as time expired, as the Bishop Badgers (1-6, 1-3) secured their first win of the season after defeating the Santa Gertrudis Academy Lions (0-7, 0-3) by one touchdown, 21-14.
The Lions made a last ditch effort to score with 11 seconds remaining in the game on a deep pass from George Santana Jr. as time expired, which was intercepted by Leo Saenz of the Badgers.
After a few Lions' players made a tackle ending the game, a fight erupted on the turf which cleared both sidelines of players and coaches.
Coaches and security at the stadium worked for a few minutes to separate their teams before the scuffle was brought to a halt.
Badgers' Head Coach Joe Rios and Lions' Head Coach Ivory Dillard spoke to their teams on their respective sidelines before escorting them off the field.
In the first half of play, multiple unsportsmanlike conduct penalties were thrown for both teams, and in one instance in the second quarter, a few players had to be separated by officials.

The Badgers forced one more penalty flag on the offense before they pinned the Lions in their own end zone for a safety.
On the ensuing drive, the Lions recovered a Badgers' fumble, which set up a 12-yard touchdown run for Santana Jr. to put SGA in the lead, 2-7.
The Badgers answered one drive later on a three-yard touchdown run by Zeke Guerrero to put Bishop ahead, 8-7.
On the next possession, Adrian Gonzalez had a huge 70-yard run into the end zone that gave the lead back to Santa Gertrudis Academy, 8-14.
Joel Guerra collected an interception on a throw by Niko Garcia with under a minute to go in the half, and both teams went into intermission with the Lions up.
The third quarter was quiet until Rodney Garcia snagged an interception for Bishop at the 3:18 mark.
The interception led to a Niko Garcia 12-yard passing touchdown to Isaiah Rodriguez, ending the third quarter with Bishop in the lead 15-14.
Late in the fourth quarter, the Badgers forced the Lions to turn the ball over on downs and Bishop scored on a one-yard run to extend their lead to 21-14.
Next up for the Badgers is a game against Falfurrias, who defeated Aransas Pass tonight, 23-20.
The Lions will take on undefeated George West in their next contest, after the Longhorns beat Mathis tonight, 28-14.
Seahawks fall to Three Rivers on the road
The Riviera Seahawks (2-5, 0-2) lost to Three Rivers (5-2, 2-0) on the road tonight, 65-30.
