Brahmas comeback to beat Gators

A late game interception sealed the first District 16-4A, Division I win of the season for the H.M. King Brahmas (2-7, 1-2) as they completed the comeback over the Grulla Gators (3-6, 0-3), 28-21.

On the opening kickoff, Tarance Carter received the kick from the 10 yard line and returned the ball to the end zone to give the Bulls the lead to start the game at 6-0.

Two drives later, Gators' quarterback Jose Trujio threw to Jesus Garza for a touchdown from nine yards out, and made that PAT that gave them the lead, 6-7.

Late in the first quarter, Carter was also doing work on defense, recovering a fumble.

After the Gators' defense kept the Bulls' offense from scoring, Trujio connected with Garza again but this time from 57 yards out.

The Gators took the lead into halftime up 6-14.

The third quarter was quiet for both teams until the Brahmas’ offense pushed down the field enough for Lupe Cavazos to get across the goal line to tie it up at 14-14.

At the beginning of the fourth quarter, the first play from scrimmage was another Garza touchdown from 69 yards out, putting the lead back into the hands of the Gators, 14-21.

On the ensuing drive, the Brahmas marched down the field and Cavazos connected with Carter for 29 yards to score a touchdown.

The attempt for two points was no good, which left the score at 20-21.

A few drives later, Cavazos broke five tackles on his way into the end zone to give the Brahmas a lead after converting the 2-point attempt, 28-21.

The Gators tried to come back after the teams exchanged leads, but a late game interception sealed the contest.

The win gives the Brahmas a shot at a potential playoff run, depending on the outcome of next week's game against Hidalgo on the road.
