The Fourth Annual Tavo Canales Memorial Scholarship Fishing Tournament was held recently at Leo Kaufer Park in Riviera. The tournament is under the direction of Rene Canales and Silver Chapa, and included 51 participants this year.

Participants received a tournament T-shirt and were fed a barbecue dinner before heading out to fish. Weigh in deadline was at midnight, and prizes were awarded for first through third place for the biggest drum, red fish and trout. Winners received a rod and reel combo, a $50 Academy gift card and a cap.

This year’s event raised $3,000, and all proceeds benefit the Tavo Canales Memorial Scholarship at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

Organizers thanked the event’s 30 corporate and individual sponsors for their support. Additional assistance was provided by Frances Chapa, Ben Boyce, Tony Garcia, Johnny Moreno and Quatro Chapa.
