The H.M. King Boy’s Powerlifting team recently hosted the Brahma Strong Powerlifting meet in Kingsville, where the team earned a first place finish for the first time this season.

The competition was filled with talent from around the area including Aransas Pass, Roma, Mathis, Refugio, Corpus Christi Incarnate Word Academy and Corpus Christi West Oso.

The Bulls were given a huge boost in the competition thanks to five gold medal performances from lifters in five different weight divisions.

In the 132-pound weight class, Isaiah Glasgow lifted a total of 665 pounds for the day in bench press, squat and deadlift to earn first place.

Jose Garza in the 165-pound weight division lifted a total of 885 pounds, Jacobo Rojas lifted 1,190 pounds in the 220-pound weight division and Gilbert Arriaga lifted 1,710 pounds in the 242-pound weight division.

In the 275-pound weight division, two lifters placed in first and second.

Roohan Charania had a lifting total of 1,230 pounds as the fifth gold medalist on the squad and Jacob Macareno lifted 880 pounds to earn a silver medal.

Also earning second place in their weight divisions were Vimbia Muzheve in the 148-pound weight division for lifting 1,045 pounds and Christian Moreno in the 198-pound weight division for lifting 1,085 pounds.

In the super heavy weight lifting division, Tomas Amaya placed third with a lifting total of 510 pounds.

Cole Self lifted 375 pounds in the 114-pound weight division, Nicholas Cruz lifted 780 pounds in the 181-pound weight division and Jessiah Castellanos lifted a total of 1,075 pounds in the 242-pound weight division, giving each lifter a spot at fourth place in their divisions.

Ryan Pena finished behind Cruz in the 181-pound weight division at fifth place with a lifting total of 765 pounds, and Elijah Aguilar also finished fifth in the 242-pound weight division.

Behind Aguilar, Diego Ellong had a lift total of 1,005 pound to finish sixth and Tiger Perez had a total lift of 950 pounds to finish seventh.

Jesse Perez placed ninth in the 198-pound weight division with a lift total of 735 pounds. Mike Soliz and Josh Johnson also both competed at the event.

Up next for the boy’s powerlifting team is a meet once again hosted by the Bulls, featuring Aransas Pass, Calallen, Banquete, Gregory-Portland, Mathis and West Oso.

The event takes place on Feb. 6 at H.M. King High School.
