Vincent Suarez has made school history as the first student ever to qualify for state competition in the pole vault. It runs in the family. Suarez’s uncle from Falfurrias, also set a record for Falfurrias High School when he jumped in the Alamo Dome many years ago.

Nine jumpers make it to state competition in Class 2A and Suarez placed second in region four, which in turn earned him a spot at state. Joey Rendon, who has been the track coach for 19 years in Riviera, said that last year Suarez made it to regionals and had a personal record of 10 feet. This year Suarez made it to 13 feet.
