The Santa Gertrudis Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously to accept the resignation of Athletic Director Ivory Dillard at a special meeting Monday night.
The board convened in closed session for more than an hour discussing “legal issues” related to the possible resignation, before returning to open session to take the vote.
Following the meeting, the board and Superintendent Veronica Alfaro declined to comment about accepting the resignation.
Dillard has held the athletic director and head football coach positions for Santa Gertrudis since February 2018. He is the third coach the football program has had in four years.
Under Dillard’s leadership, the Lions have held a 3-17 record over the past two seasons, and have only one win in District 16-3A, Division I play.
At an SGISD school board meeting held in November of 2019, multiple parents and student-athletes voiced their support for the coach, as the board discussed Dillard’s possible future with the district.
The board did not take any action at the time.
Dillard was not present for the meeting and was contacted, but the Kingsville Record had not received a response by Monday evening.
